Every family desire different number of children. The contributions normally come from every member of the nuclear and extended family as the case may be.
The father, who is normally the basic needs provider, will always consider his pocket while determining the number of children they should have. Another will consider the work force that will help in his business, be it farming, trading or other means of livelihood. This also considers the gender of the children, where the man also wishes he raises his successor(s) from his children.
The mother will most likely look at the ones who will help her in house chores. Some other just desire out of jealousy and in comparison to the number other friends, families and neighbours have.  The gender considerations also play out here. The woman wants female children to help her out while she also desire the male who she feels will protect and fight for her.
The parents and parent in laws are not left behind. They also demand for grand children like it is really their right to suggest, and sometimes impose the number of children and the genders their sons and sons in law, daughters and daughters in law should have.
The children already in the family place their own demands. Some will want female younger siblings who they will practice their hair styles, make ups with. Others want male younger siblings to play football and other games with.
It is believed that everyone should be considered and each person’s interest protected. This could be achieved by discussions and share of interest and views. Through this, a balanced consensus could be reached and everybody happy about the number and gender of children in a family.
