I am talking wine mainly for the people who do not understand that wine has its rituals, for those we ship wine to whose relationship with wine could best be described as shop shelves to glass. Christ shared wine with his disciples not to get them drunk, wine and drunkenness are far apart.
Export of wine to Asia and Africa should also involve the export of the culture that surrounds wine thereby creating job, investment opportunities for the region and allow for international interactions between people not just dumping of wine to expand the European market. A huge percentage of wines on the shelves of most African and Asian countries I have visited are from Europe with few from Australia and South Africa.
The wine culture will be greatly abused in such regions and the social and economic environments which the wine culture creates would not be established in the regions.
These pictures from the GRAN GALA DEL VINO ITALIANO speak a lot about wine culture; THE SOMMELIER, WINE SERVING, WINE SNIFFERS, THE SMILES/LAUGHTER AND FRIENDSHIP.
