Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney enjoyed a ‘proud moment’ as he equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s club goal record.
Rooney matched Charlton’s 249 goals when he bagged a seventh-minute opener during Saturday’s 4-0 FA Cup defeat of Reading.
The 31-year-old hopes he can break the record this week, with United facing Hull in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Tuesday before a Premier League clash with Liverpool next Sunday, both games live on Sky Sports.
Rooney tweeted after the game: “Great team performance and a proud moment personally to equal Sir Bobby’s record. It’s an honour to join him as Man United’s leading goalscorer.”
