The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2016-17 opener between Kano Pillars and FC Ifeanyi Ubah has been abandoned . The match was abandoned by the visitors, FC Ifeanyi Ubah three minutes into the second half.

Kano Pillars captain Gambo Mohammad broke the deadlock in the 30th minute as the hosts took the lead at half time.

The 2016 Federation Cup champions management ordered their players to discontinue the game in the second half as they felt the referee, Folusho Ajayi made a wrong call to disallow what they deemed a legitimate goal.

Head Coach of Kano Pillars, Kadiri Ikhana says the home fans deserves a lot praise for their calmness during the controversy moments.

“The fans deserves a lot of praises for their calmness when the game was abandoned. They behave well and control their emotions,” said Ikhana   after the centre referee Folusho Ajayi called off the game.

“I was impressed with my players in the first half, we created about six chances and we could have scored more than one in the first half. Our opponent were porous and couldn’t play.

“We also notice some lapses in the team, we are not perfect yet and we will continue to work with the players to build a formidable team that will compete for honours this season.”

The NPFL matchday one games continues tomorrow (Sunday) across 9 centres.
