3-Goals Made In London Gave Eagles Victory Over Algeria
Super Eagles of Nigeria maintained their 100 percent record since the coming of German coach, Gernot Rohr, as they defeated Algeria 3-1 in a Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
English Premier League side’s stars, Victor Moses, who got a brace and Mikel Obi, were the goal scorers as the Super Eagles draw closer to qualification.
Moses gave the Super Eagles the lead in the 25th minute of the game with a close finish while Mikel make it 2-0 in the 42nd minute.
Nabir Bentalab gave the visitor a glimmer of hope when he scored a screamer in the 65th minute but Moses restored Eagles two goals lead in the 90th minute to make it two out of two for Nigeria.
The victory put the Super Eagles at the top of the table with six points from two matches while Cameroon who failed to defeat Zambia at home are second with two points from two matches played.
The Super Eagles defeated Zambia 2-1 in their first match and has consolidated their position at the top with another victory.
Speaking after the victory, the coach of the team, Rohr said: “We won today but we haven’t secured the ticket. However, we are on the right path.
“I like the unity in the team. My players are working together; even those on the bench were fantastic.”
Also on Saturday, Cameroon came from a goal down to play a 1-1 draw against Zambia, making it a back-to-back draw for the Indomitable Lions after their opening day draw against Algeria.
The Eagles next match will be against Cameroon as they continue their quest to qualify for a major championship after missing two consecutive AFCON.
