Two nights ago, I experienced a bout of sleep paralysis. For those who have never been possessed by its demons, ‘sleep paralysis is a sleep phenomenon in which the sufferer feels an immense sense of impending doom as they are caught between sleep and wakefulness’. During these experiences, I lose the ability to freely move my head and body, and am unable to produce any sound-despite the belief that I am screaming with all my might.
The truth is sleep paralysis is a biological event there is no reason to worry at all, you are not dying. It is a hiccup in the brain’s chemical soup as we transition from sleep to wakefulness.
