Holiness is not a title; it is a life’s walk evident in everything done by an individual. To be holy is to be obedient to God in all things.
It also includes to live a sanctified life, separated unto God in a life of worship lead by the Spirit of God and the Word of God which is the Truth of God.
God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. John 4:24
The natural cannot conform to the supernatural by its own ability; man cannot come into conformity with the nature, holiness and glory of God by his own ability, it is simply beyond him.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. John 3:6
Nonetheless, God demands holiness from man as He is holy.
Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy. Leviticus 19:2
The level of life a natural man lives by nature longs after things that are in opposition to the nature of God, this is not just because he cannot attain to them but also because of his fallen state.
To enable man, meet His demands, God in His eternal mercies made a way for man to be begotten by Him, meaning God provided man a means tohave his very nature just as a son has the nature of his father.
This is the privilege made available in Christ Jesus.
But as many as receive him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. John 1:12.
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2Peter 1:4
Once an individual accepts Jesus Christ as His Personal Lord and Savior, such an individual receives a new nature, the nature of Jesus Christ; who is the full manifestation of God in bodily form, and also the first begotten of the Father, I.e. the first Son of God.
Therefore if anyone be in Christ He is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things are become new. 2 Corinthian 5:17
For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily Colossian 2:9
In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 1John 4:9
Upon receiving Christ, one is justified and stands as though he/she has never committed any sin in his life; as old things are passed away, receives the righteousness of God; a state of right standing with God and the nature of God to do right things, is baptized with the Holy Spirit who leads him/her through all truths and reveals the mind of God to him/her, and is given the Word of God which is the truth that sanctifies.
For He hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2Corinthains 5:21
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth… John 16:13.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17
Once again at this junction, God demands
… be ye holy; for I am holy. 1Peter 1:16
God has made provisions for all men to meet His demands but has given all men; born again or not freewill, he expects all men to willingly take advantage of His provisions and choose to commit to holy living all their lives.
There is no excuse why not.
Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man… Romans 2:1
