Romans 4:4-5 KJV
Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Most people want to feel good about earning or meriting anything they achieve or receive. It gives them an ego boost to know that they are qualified to enjoy what they “sweated” to achieve.
There are yet others who in terms of achievements refer to themselves as “Self -made” in obvious contradiction of the Bible position.
John 3:27 KJV
“.....A man can receive nothing, EXCEPT it be given him from heaven”.
Such people become proud and arrogant. They believe they are better, smarter and more important than others.
Abraham was one of the richest and the most favoured men that ever lived. He had an intimate relationship with the Almighty God who not only talked with him personally but referred to Abram as friend. (Isaiah 41:8 / 2nd Chronicles 20:7)
Abraham was so wealthy that he had 318 servants in his household apart from his own family. (Genesis 14:14). 318 servants were born and raised in his house. Imagine feeding that number of people on a daily basis, not counting their parents. Abraham was a greatly blessed man indeed.
But how did Abraham get so wealthy? How did he become so highly favoured by God? It was a simple matter of Faith in God.
Galatians 3:6 KJV
“.....Abraham believed God, and it was accounted [CREDITED] to him for [AS] righteousness”
At 75, Abraham was still unsuccessful. It was when he was found by God (Genesis 12:1-3) that he received the Grace of God that manifested in wealth transfer from the Pharaoh of Egypt to him. Genesis 13:1 opens with the announcement that Abraham had become VERY rich.
The Bible concludes that Abraham was blessed of God and therefore totally unqualified to be proud or boastful.
Romans 4:2 KJV
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
There are those who sweat to succeed. There are yet others who believe in God’s Grace for success. The difference can be seen in their respective results.
When Ruth went to gather by labour, she could only get an ephah of barley after a hard day’s work. (Ruth 2:17). However when the God factor stepped into her life as favour in the sight of the plantation owner Boaz, without working at all, she received freely 6 MEASURES OF BARLEY. That is 200 times more than an ephah of barley.
Her faith in the God of Israel that Naomi served brought her into favour. Favour not only ended poverty in her life by getting her married to one of the richest bachelors in the land but brought her directly into the linage of the coming Messiah. She was the Grandmother of King David ben Jesse. Wow. What a God! Ruth went from losing a husband to birthing kings.
Which would you rather have? A boastful success that is limited in results by self effort OR great success triggered by faith in God and powered by Divinity?
I don’t know about you but I’m on the side of faith and Divine promotion where I enjoy success not by Personal Sweat but by Divine Sweet. This does not mean becoming lazy, it simply means doing things under the covenant banner of Divine Favour.
Romans 4:5 KJV
But to him that WORKETH NOT, but BELIEVETH on HIM that justifieth the ungodly, HIS FAITH is counted for RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Shalom Beloved, may you have a favour filled day and week in the name of Messiah Yeshua.
