Colossians 3:12-13 KJV
PUT ON therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, BOWELS OF MERCIES, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; [13] Forbearing one another, and FORGIVING ONE ANOTHER, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as CHRIST FORGAVE YOU, so also do ye.

“Revenge is a tasty dish best served when it’s cold”  Those words were penned by author Mario Puzo in his popular book “The Godfather”. It later became an award winning motion picture. It was a depiction of the lifestyle and business ethics of 5 New York mafia families, dominant among which was the Vito Corleone family.

Revenge was seen as a code of honour amongst family members. The most brutal “soldiers” were recruited and the most deadly of hitmen employed. Revenge sometimes could take years after the original hurt. This was to ensure that even the offending party had forgotten. Smiles and pretentious affections often covered up the hidden smoldering embers of internal rage. Suddenly years later, the unwary offender is struck down by the offended family and revenge exacted.

Unfortunately, many Church folks with unrenewed minds still think this way.

Waiting for years and a good opportunity to strike back at an offender is an evil spawned and sustained by satanic darkness.

How could ANY saved person ever find satisfaction in such a practice? The mere act of nursing unforgiveness is by itself unthinkable for the Jesus follower, let alone plan and exact vengeance.
“But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus” ( Ephesians 4:20-21).

Unforgiveness is a killer and revenge is satanic. It shouldn’t be named amongst the Saints of God at all.

Hurts are inevitable and offences are unavoidable as long as you are in this world. However, revenge is a mere craving and satisfaction of the flesh. Admittedly, it can be very difficult to pass over an offence whereas you could easily strike back, but this is the Kingdom! Here, forgiveness is the greatest revenge against a hurt. It strips the devil naked and robs the situation of further power to hurt.

Most religions teach revenge as a moral principle but then Christianity is NOT a religion; IT IS THE LIFE OF CHRIST LIVED THROUGH HUMANS. In every situation of hurt or offence, the question to ask is “WWJD ?” (What Would Jesus Do)

Unforgiveness and it’s associate desire for revenge are base aspects of the “animal appetite” of humanity. It is such a display of the dominion of your human flesh and the apparent weakness of your Spirit man.

Until the Divine in you swallows up your human self, salvation’s impact shall remain at the mercy of your flesh.

The greatest expression of strength IN Christ is the ability to forgive your offenders and leave vengeance to God. This my friends is true MEEKNESS and not WEAKNESS.

Ponder these things today. Let your cogitation be deep. May the God of Peace strengthen you and may the Peace of God exercise your heart unto meekness in the name of Jesus. Amen.
