Romans 4:2-3 KJV
“For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. [3] For what saith the scripture? Abraham BELIEVED GOD, and it was COUNTED unto him for righteousness”

At the risk of overstretching the point, I’d like to repeat that Righteousness is not “Sinlessness”, rather it is guiltlessness. It is the justifying nature of God deposited in the heart of a man or woman that was saved by Grace through Faith in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Right living on the other hand is Righteousness manifesting itself in appropriate conduct that should impact positively on others.

It is very important for followers of Christ to develop in Right living otherwise they may misrepresent God’s Kingdom before others and further confuse people on the true meaning of Righteousness.

1 John 3:7 KJV
“......he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous”.

Living right is a product of 2 things:  Understanding that you’ve been made righteous (Identity) AND a personal decision to live right. (Choice)

1. On the God - ward side, God is not counting sins (wrong actions) against you because of Christ’s substitutionary work on the Cross.

2 Corinthians 5:19 KJV
“God was IN CHRIST,  RECONCILING the world unto himself, NOT IMPUTING their TRESPASSES unto them…”

2. On the man-ward side, you have the right to make a choice but you can’t determine the consequence(s) of that choice.
You may, for instance, steal from your office, that was your choice. However, you can’t control the establishment’s reaction to your crime. Grace does not deny the reality of wrong choices / consequences in the world of men. It may not protect you from consequences that directly result from the exercise of your power of choice.

If you find yourself in jail for stealing from your employer, God’s unchanging Grace is still on your life but because it was MAN that you offended, Man’s reaction by incarcerating you shall stand. Take this scenario and play it in every other area of human life; you’ll come to understand the value of right living.

Right living generates a testimony of change that is observed by the world and honours God.

Everything done for the believer in Christ is internal and therefore invisible to human eyes. No matter how much you tell them you are born again, the only way they can believe that is by observing changes in your conduct.

The drunkard changed, the thief transformed and the whoremonger renewed - these are powerful testimonies of the power of God that people can observe in saved Christians and believe in God’s power.

Galatians 1:23-24 KJV
“But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past NOW preacheth the faith which once he destroyed. [24] And they GLORIFIED GOD in me”

May our lives become worthy witnesses of God’s transforming power in the name of Jesus.
