Genesis 2:2-3 KJV
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. [3] And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

The disagreements in Christendom over which worship day is Biblically correct stems from a lack of understanding. While some worship on Sunday, others insist according to the Old Testament that Saturday being Sabbath is the appropriate day. Some even believe and teach that the “mark of the beast” is actually a refusal to worship on Saturday, thus siding with Satan in defiance of God’s instruction.
However a careful examination of the Bible would reveal that EVERY Old Testament practice merely typified Christ Jesus. Every Old Testament writing of both Law and Prophets were but adumbrations and pointers to Christ.

After His death, Jesus explained to His disciples that His earthly advent was nothing but a fulfilment of all that the Old Testament foreshadowed.

Luke 24:27,44 KJV
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. [44] And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that ALL THINGS must be FULFILLED, which were written in the LAW OF MOSES and in the PROPHETS, and in the PSALMS, CONCERNING ME.

In responding to a question on Sabbath while physically on earth, Jesus explained in Mark 2:27-28 that Sabbath was made for Man and NOT the other way round. Sabbath literally means Rest. It is NOT about worship. It was the Law that made it about worship.  It is actually exemption from exertion and labour. Since the Old Testament merely foreshadowed the New, in the Old Testament, it was ceasing from physical labour. In the New Testament, it is exemption from spiritual labour. In both cases, God becomes the source of every need. God gave Manna in the wilderness as their food supply, today He has given us Jesus the living bread from Heaven. Jesus actually laid it to rest when He announced that He IS the Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2:28).

Having established that, He now offers Rest (Sabbath) in Himself to ALL who would come to Him. Remember that Sabbath is exemption from self effort and exertion.

Matthew 11:28 KJV
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I WILL GIVE YOU REST.

“Give” in this context teaches that Sabbath is A GIFT that only Christ can give. What is this gift of Sabbath? According to Romans 6:23, it is Eternal Life; God’s gift to any man who would believe. Therefore believing is necessary to receive or “enter” it.

Hebrews 4:3 KJV
For WE WHICH HAVE BELIEVED do enter (HAVE ENTERED) into rest, .........although the WORKS were finished from the FOUNDATION of THE WORLD.

“The works that were finished from the foundation of the world” refer to Christ becoming Man’s rest without any input. It was typified by God finishing all the work of the Earth and Eden before putting Adam there. Adam was NOT worshipping God in Eden, He was resting in God’s finished work being exempted from toil and labour. Toil was introduced when he fell. God had done the work by Himself and finished it without Adam’s input. All Adam did was to accept Eden and the Earth by extension as God’s gift.

Sabbath is not a day of worship. It is exemption from labour and exertion. It is Man ceasing from his labour and God’s favour supplying all Man’s needs according to God’s riches in Glory as found IN Christ Jesus.
Sabbath is about a person called Jesus and the Gift of Eternal life that He offers to every man that would accept it by believing.

Ephesians 1:4 KJV
According as he hath CHOSEN us IN HIM BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Glory to God in the highest. I confess I have believed and have therefore entered into Christ Jesus, God’s eternal Sabbath for me. Halleluyah.

Shalom Beloved.
