Genesis 11:4-5 KJV
And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. [5] And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

What drives you to do the things you do? What is your motivation for every action you take? I chose to describe MOTIVATION as MOTIVE + ACTION. Though man may roar in applause or swoon in shock at your actions, God bypasses the act to examine the motive. With God, the motive or reason for doing carries more weight than the act itself.

Even the good works you do in the kingdom must be motivated by the God factor, otherwise it will amount to a wasteful exercise in deception.

The tower of Babel builders were determined to build a city AND a tower high enough to reach far into the clouds.  From miles around, the tower would be seen and men would be guided to the city.  That seemed like a gallant and noble idea but the only problem was who gets both the credit and Glory for these buildings.

What was the motive behind this construction?

“And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and LET US MAKE US A NAME…..”

They wanted to make a name for themselves instead of to be known by the the name of God.

If whatever you are doing both in and out of the Kingdom of God is designed to make a name for yourself, it is actually doomed to failure because the motive is wrong. The tower of Babel was a symbol of rebellion against God and the city built around it was a rallying point for rebels and wilful people.

Nimrod (Rebel) & the other builders wanted to be famous. They wanted to “make a name” for themselves. Compare their motive with the promise of God to Abraham.

Genesis 12:2 KJV
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I WILL bless thee, and MAKE THY NAME GREAT; and thou shalt be a blessing:

Every time you seek to be known in and by yourself without the hand of God lifting you, you are rejecting both the process and promotion of God in His own timing for your life.

What they built was motivated by rebellious pride and self promotion, therefore it attracted people of like minds.

When God “came down” to inspect their work, the Bible records it as God coming to see “the city and the tower, which the children of men builded”.

Beloved, please allow God to build YOU first, then build FOR YOU.
Though He may use the hands of Men to build the vision, marriage, structure or whatever else needs to be built, it will be God all the way. Men shall then be building according to divine pattern.

Hebrews 3:4 KJV
“For every house is builded by some man ; BUT HE that built ALL THINGS is God”.

Hebrews 8:5 KJV
“......as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou MAKE ALL THINGS ACCORDING TO THE PATTERN SHEWED TO THEE IN THE MOUNT”

# IF GOD IS NOT DIRECTING YOUR BUILDING, YOUR WORK IS IN VAIN.

Psalm 127:1 KJV
“Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it….”

# WHAT YOU ARE BUILDING SHALL BE TESTED BY HEAVEN’S QUALITY CONTROL AGENT - Fire!

1 Corinthians 3:13-15 KJV
[13] Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. [14] If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. [15] IF ANY MAN’S WORK SHALL BE BURNED, HE SHALL SUFFER LOSS….”

May we not labour in vain in the name of Jesus. To avoid this, let your motive be pure so that your work will endure.

Shalom Beloved
