Colossians 2:6-7 KJV
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: [7] Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught,  ABOUNDING THEREIN WITH THANKSGIVING.

According to our Bible text, after receiving Christ Jesus the Lord by Grace through Faith (Ephesians 2:8). We are to walk or live in the same way - by Faith. God expects us to live that way for the rest of our lives with the major objective of growth. This growth process is described robustly by 4 powerful words. These words agree with 1 Corinthians 3:9. The believer in Christ is described as God’s building as well as God’s Farm or planting.

1. ROOTED IN Christ.  (Ephesians 3:17)
This literally means taking roots and becoming grounded and immovable. This conveys a thought of becoming mature in both the knowledge and ways of the Lord. This ensures we are not tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine or feelings. Many believers operate by their feelings or emotions. When they are happy because things are working well, especially financially, it meant that God is Good. When things are rough, then God is NOT so good. God expects us to become ROOTED to the degree that our emotions do not sway our faith.
This is a FOUNDATIONAL Stage. Growth in this case is primarily downward. Observing eyes may not see, but growth is happening as your roots start penetrating deep into the soil of God’s love. In most cases, even you do not know you are developing because for the most part, you don’t notice any changes.

2. BUILT UP in Christ.  (Acts 20:32)
Like a structure that starts becoming visible from the foundation level, or a plant that shoots through the soil, we are expected to start growing upwards. The success of this growth is determined by how deeply you have become ROOTED. Upward growth means that visible changes begin. You start growing noticeably. Focus, stability and spiritual commitment now define you.  This is DEVELOPMENTAL Growth stage. At this stage, your spiritual commitment becomes determined by the Word of God. It becomes your necessary food.

3. ESTABLISHED IN Christ. (Hebrews 13:9)
Now you’ve come to full maturity. Way past the foundational and the developmental stages, you are now standing as a complete structure. You are now a spiritual edifice, an architectural masterpiece. You have now become a full grown tree at a fruit bearing stage. This is PRODUCTIVITY Stage.  Needs no longer drive you, rather you seek to give out. Others start to benefit from your maturity even as God receives the Glory.

4. ABOUNDING IN Christ (Ephesians 5:19)
This is a CONTINUATION Stage of Growth. It is entirely up to you. The first 3 stages are not optional but this stage is. Continuity means you can become better and better daily. Just like you keep improving the value of an edifice by aesthetics upgrade, this stage flexibly endorses your choice. The driver of this stage is a lifestyle of THANKSGIVING. I elect to describe it as THANKSLIVING or LIVING THANKS. A daily lifestyle of thankfulness is what you require at this stage to keep improving your value.

Thankless people are proud people. Proud people are thoughtless people. Thoughtless people are ungrateful people. Ungrateful people are stingy people. Stingy people commonize good, regardless of what they see, hear, receive or experience.

Thankful people on the other hand are some of the greatest givers I know. They are a delight to be with. Maturity causes a refreshing and fragrant effluent to come out of them. They turn on the switch of Joy and fill their atmosphere with Divine sweetness. This is NOT a happenstance thing, it is the result of spiritual maturity achieved by personal commitment to process and growth.

Both grumpiness and thankfulness are functions of growth. Both sour grapes and sweet oranges are sources of vitamin C, the difference is in their taste. I personally prefer to be a source of blessing in a tasty manner. LIVINGTHANKS is the key.

Shalom Beloved.
