Hebrews 12:11 KJV
Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
Growth is an inevitable requirement in life. Growth is a sign of development and advancement. Since Man is essentially spirit, spiritual growth is the most essential of all growths. Most people see spiritual growth as challenging and impossible. They often wonder how on Earth they can grow. Discouragement can come when we look at our flaws that seemingly refuse to go away. It can be quite challenging but not impossible if you are committed to growth. The biggest indicator of poor spiritual growth is the absence of peace in the heart. Inner peace is proof that regardless of contrary circumstances, that individual trusts the Lord.
Isaiah 26:3 KJV
Thou wilt keep him in PERFECT PEACE, whose mind is stayed on thee : BECAUSE he trusteth in thee.
These 3 steps are suggested to help you in spiritual development if you’ll follow them diligently.
1. SPEND MORE TIME WITH GOD
If you want to build discipline and self-control into your life, study, pray and linger in the presence of God – and tell Him you know you can’t do anything if He doesn’t make it happen. Spend a little time every day in His Word. Spending time with God is where everything comes together.
2. ENDURE AND ENJOY THE CORRECTIONS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
This is not about conscience. The voice of the Holy Spirit does not bring condemnation. He speaks correction.
If God is talking to you about your behavior and attitudes, instead of sulking because you can no longer get away with the things you once got away with, you should rejoice. That’s the Holy Spirit becoming more intimate with you and teaching you maturity and responsibility.
3. ALIGN YOURSELF WITH GOD’S WILL
God has planted a seed in your heart and it’s growing. Believe that God is working in your heart to make you want more of what He has for your life than just getting your own way. You can water that seed by seeking Him with your whole heart. *The more you pray, study and read the Word, the more you will see the positive results of doing the right thing, which will make you want to do even more right things.*
You have everything you need, in Christ, to be what you need to be. Commit to bringing your life under God’s discipline and authority. Ask Him to help you live a life aligned with His will. It may be hard at first, but stick with it and I promise you will experience deeper peace than you ever knew when you were living only for yourself.
